Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) is any violence, coercion, or discrimination based on gender or sexual orientation. It disproportionately affects women and girls, though men and LGBTQ+ individuals can also be victims. SGBV includes rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, forced marriage, and harassment.

Preventing SGBV requires addressing its root causes, including harmful gender norms, stereotypes, and power imbalances. Promoting gender equality, women’s empowerment, comprehensive sex and consent education, and providing safe spaces and legal support for survivors are critical steps.

Media and radio play a key role by raising awareness, educating communities on consent and healthy relationships, and providing platforms for survivors to share experiences. Coordinated efforts combining education, advocacy, legal reforms, and survivor support are essential to combat SGBV effectively.
