Domain: SOCIAL JUSTICE INCLUDING HUMAN RIGHTS

In order to eradicate social inequities and disparities, Reseau Culturel Sangwa (RCS) seeks out ways to redress social issues and injustices, both through legal and cultural means. 

Through its interventions, R.C.S has focused to strengthening the target groups with Human rights principles, including dignity, autonomy, equality and promotion, protection and enforcement of human rights, respect and fairness. The Organization established a Human Rights Education to carry out public enlightenment, target group trainings and other human rights education activities.

  • 150 teen and young mothers have been coached to recognize their freedom to make choices about their lives, reproductive health rights and to develop their potential as human beings. Today, their leadership is about living a life free from harassment and a repetitive sexual violence.
  • Forty-one teen mothers (41) and ten young boys (10) went back to school with the support of school feeding. They are free from discrimination.
  • 25 girls get the rights to be voted and elected in decision-making organs at village level: in cooperative, Youth movements, Choirs of religious denominations, etc.
  • 75 couples (parents of teen and young mothers) and 150 teen mothers, returned to their parental responsibilities after being strengthened in terms of human rights, women’s and child rights and other laws including the Law N° 59/2008 of 10/09/2008 on Prevention and Punishment of GenderBased Violence to which they have failed. They respectively reintegrated their daughters and her babies into their respective families
  • 59 children born from teen and young mothers (39%) received their paternity rights with registration in the civil registry.
  • 70 among 150 teen and young mothers trained, have their rights to economic, social and cultural rights where they have rights to grow their own and collective businesses and to take part in social and cultural activities.
  • 100 teen and young mothers received counseling, psychological rehabilitation and Legal assistance through the advocacy and referral program that made many institutions to be concerned.
  • 350-trained people on Human rights, women and child rights, Genderbased violence, domestic violence, Civic Education are champions and activists of peace building in their respective communities.
  • 300 children are supervised during the summer holidays through the program called "Peace, Hope and Development" Vision of the Children of the Hills of Love”.
  • 25% of couples (81/270 couples) trained and increased their knowledge on the Culture of peace and tolerance, unity and reconciliation, prevention and management of the domestic conflicts and on different laws including :
    • Law Nº 32/2016 of 28/08/2016 Governing Persons and Family: The law governs persons and family as well as relations between persons.
    • Law N° 43/2013 of 16/06/2013 governing land in Rwanda:
    • Law No 08/2005 determining the use and management of land in Rwanda
    • Law Nº 68/2018 of 30/08/2018 determining offences and penalties in general provide punishment of Gender-Based Violence (GBV)
    • Law No 01/2012/OL of 02/05/2012 instituting the Penal Code especially on issues of criminalizing child defilement, human trafficking, marital rape, forced marriage.

Law No 71/2018 of 31/08/2018 relating to the protection of the child rights. The acquired knowledge conducted couples to restore the family dialogue and their unity and then legalize their marriage.
