Domain: SOCIAL JUSTICE INCLUDING HUMAN RIGHTS

Introduction

Réseau Culturel Sangwa works to eliminate social inequities and injustices by promoting human rights, dignity, and equality for all. Through legal awareness, cultural engagement, and community education, Réseau Culturel Sangwa strengthens individuals and families to understand, claim, and exercise their human rights.

Our Human Rights Education Program provides public awareness, training, coaching, and advocacy to ensure communities live free from discrimination, violence, and social exclusion.

Key Focus Areas & Results

1. Empowering Teen & Young Mothers

·  150 teen and young mothers coached to understand their freedom of choice, reproductive health rights, and personal autonomy.

·  Many now live free from harassment and repeated sexual violence.

·    41 teen mothers and 10 young boys supported to return to school through school feeding programs.

·       25 girls gained the right to be elected into village-level decision-making organs (cooperatives, youth movements, church choirs, etc.).

2. Restoring Families & Promoting Child Rights

·   75 couples and 150 teen mothers strengthened in human rights, women’s and children’s rights, and national GBV law (Law Nº59/2008).

·        Parents reintegrated their daughters and grandchildren into their families.

·        59 children (39%) born to teen mothers received legal paternity recognition and civil registration.

3. Advancing Economic, Social & Cultural Rights

·   70 teen and young mothers now exercise their right to economic participation by starting individual and collective businesses.

·         They actively take part in community social and cultural life.

4. Protection, Psychosocial Support & Legal Aid

·    100 teen and young mothers received counseling, psychological rehabilitation, legal assistance, and referrals through Réseau Culturel Sangwa advocacy.

5. Building Community Human Rights Champions

·   350 people trained in human rights, GBV prevention, domestic violence, civic education, and child protection became community activists for peace and justice.

·     300 children engaged in the annual “Peace, Hope & Development Vision of the Children of the Hills of Love” holiday program.

6. Strengthening Couples in Peace & Legal Literacy

25% of trained couples (81/270) increased knowledge on:

·         Culture of peace, tolerance, unity & reconciliation

·         Domestic conflict prevention & management

·         Family law, child protection law, land laws, and penalties for GBV

This resulted in:

·         Restored family dialogue

·         Strengthened unity

·         Formal legalization of marriages to 68% of targeted couples.
